Marine Corps Birthday Dinner
The Detachment held a 236th Marine Corps Birthday Celebration Dinner on Thursday, November 10th at the Belmont Country Club, Ashburn, VA. About 40 Marines, families of Marines and friends of Marines attended this festive gathering and celebrated the Marine Corps birthday.
Detachment Family Picnic was held on 27 August 2011
That was a great gathering. It's always good to get together with our members and their spouses.
Ron, thanks once more for providing a marvelous setting.
Oohrah.
Boys State Award
The Detachment was given recognition from American Legion Post 293 for its contributions to Boys State.
Purcellville Library Display The detachment set up a display for the month of November at the Purcellville library. It featured information about the detachment, a number of books about the Marine Corps, and a Marine uniform courtesy of the National Museum of the Marine Corps.
We are looking at other Loudoun County library locations to repeat the display, and have reserved Purcellville's for November, 2012.
Please scroll to the bottom of the page for the activities calendar.
Detachment Color Guards
The Detachment provided the color guard for the Leesburg Halloween Parade in October, 2011 and had a float in it advertising Toys for Tots and recruiting for the Detachment. Our color guard Detachment also led the 2011 Leesburg 4th of July parade:
Two hours later the Detachment was back at it, this time riding in Purcellville's 4th of July parade:
Care Package Program
The Detachment has initiated a program to send care packages to deployed Loudoun County Marines.
Frank Holtz and Larry Zok have the duty of handling the initial contact that identifies the deployed Marine and receiving donations of money and care package contents.
Ron Clark will account for the receipt and disbursement of donated funds, and until the program grows larger, Larry and Frank will handle the mail out of the packages.
At some point we hope the program grows large enough to establish a detachment auxiliary to help with the packing and shipping during packing parties.
Richard Rohrer is handling the publicity for the program.
2011 Toys for Tots is over. Thanks to all toy donors and to all of our wonderful volunteers, mission accomplished:

Toys from 2010 storage: 7,489
Sent to other MCL units: 2,502
Total toys distributed: 26,280
Total toys stored: 12,109 (this enables early 2012 pack-ups for
institutional requests...gives them time to wrap and distribute to their
children).
Total children served: 8,423
Of the children served, 3996 were at Loudoun County's Holiday Coalition
(toys provided by Toys for Tots) and 4427 taken care of by direct
